Dubious Goals

You will find differences between goalscorers on this site when compared to other sites. This is because of the many so called dubious goals. The Dubious Goals Committee was set-up in February 1993, a few months after the start of the first Premier League which was August 1992. I have checked the goalscorers on this site with those on the Official Premier League Website. I used the official site as they should have adjusted their scorers in line with the DGC decisions. However, this does not mean this website is 100% accurate. Nor does it mean this site is 100% or any other site because dubious goals are subjective.

The main differences appear to be shots that hit the woodwork then rebound off the keeper into the net. These are clearly own goals but the DGC awarded these type of goals to the attacker. Until that is, season 2016-17 when they appear to have changed the rules. An example of this is the penalty taken by Baines on 27th Aug 2016. The DGC said this was an own goal by Given as it hit the post and rebounded into the net. There are many examples where the committee have awarded these type of goals to the striker. I don't agree with this as a shot NOT on target cannot be awarded to the shooter. It's unlucky on the keeper but then no player deliberately scores an own goal.

Here is a list of goals where the goalscorer differs on the Premier League site to this one. I'm more than happy to receive any comments.
